
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - October 18 in 2000) was an American actor and singer who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her smooth, soft vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. Her debut album "Cry me a river" which she recorded was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award for 1974 for her part in Emergency! as Nurse Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career began acting as an actress as she was an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's acting career lasted for 35 years and began in 1944 with roles in films. This included roles as the lead female role in many westerns. She also starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the start of her professional musical career. The final album of her studio was released in the year 1969. Her success continued in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), she starred with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
