Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of the football scholarship of his family and service to the community. In the first place Selmon was brought up with Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie on the farm close to Eufala within Oklahoma as the youngest of the nine children they had. The Selmons were also among the three siblings that represented Oklahoma in football. Three brothers all made All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the country by Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. The three years he was a starter Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and won two national championships. The National Football Foundation named him as a Scholar-Athlete three times time in the year 1975. Selmon earned a diploma from the University of California at Berkeley. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week as a volunteer in the college. Then he settled in Tampa after college, playing for the Buccaneers for nine years and made three times all-pro. His business career began. He was hired in 1988 as an Account Relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's most outstanding young males. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing 256 pounds in college as a player, captained his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of at the University of South Florida's sports department as the associate director. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented it.
